Intercession Prayer for Sunday 14th January 2018

The Second Sunday of Epiphany.

Audio expires after approximately 90 days.

Father who gave us the perfect gift of love, in Your son, we thank You that Your love is renewed every day. Let Jesus light brighten the dark places of our minds and of this world. In His light, show us how to build Your kingdom of peace and justice for everyone of all faiths or none and that hope becomes action toward that goal.

You called Samual as a child, yet he did not know who was calling him. Like Eli enlightened Samuel to Your call, show each of us how in our own way, and in the most appropriate way for people we encounter we can enlighten those who do not hear, or do not know who is calling them.

We pray for those who died at sea on the Sanchi oil tanker, when it collided with a cargo vessel. May they find peace with You Father and their families and those who loved them feel your comforting support and from it draw strength. We pray too for the environment, that oil the Sanchi was carrying does not cause pollution to the sea and contamination of the environment.

For America, we pray for the families of the dead in the mudslides in California. God above give comfort the their families, strength to the aid workers, healing to the injured, wisdom to the medics treating them and generosity to communities helping those now without homes.

We pray for all homeless wherever they may be and whatever the cause of their homelessness. May they be found warmth and shelter especially at this cold time of year. Help too those struggling to find work or relying on food banks.

We pray for everyone of faith wherever they may be. Where they are small in number, oppressed or persecuted, give them strength and encouragement. Where there is doubt, help them find certainty and where there is danger, help them find courage.

We pray for the injured and unwell, distressed and anxious, those coping with poor mental health and the bereaved that they may find healing and relief. Guide medical staff of hospitals and care homes. Bless carers whose love and compassion brings Your blessing to those in their care. We pray for those awaiting treatment and we bring to You those in need of Your support, comfort and healing known and unknown to us.

Almighty God and Father, let us live by Your justice and may Your light show us the way and lead us when it is hard to see.

Merciful Father Accept this prayer for the sake of Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Intercession Prayer for Sunday 26th November 2017

: The Sunday Next Before Advent.

Audio expires after approximately 90 days.

Eternal God of love, father of Jesus Christ. You sent Your Son into this world that You created, to live amongst us as servant and king. We remember Jesus’ own words “My kingdom is not of this world.” so let us acknowledge Him as king of the world to come to which he has ascended. We pray to You in his name for the world, the church and for ourselves.

Father of all people wherever they may be, let Jesus’ reign bring peace and understanding to the world as we seek to become like Him; servants, peacemakers and healers with compassion and integrity.

Give relief to the continuing crisis in Yemen. May humanitarian aid be given by countries that can afford to, to the 20 million people, more than half of them children, needing food, medicines and shelter.

May leaders and politicians who try to secure peace and enable reconciliation between opposing factions be blessed with wisdom.

Father strengthen and heal those injured in the attack on the al-Rawda mosque in Egypt and comfort the bereaved. Guide the leaders and those in power to seek justice, not revenge.

Strengthen those trying to protect the vulnerable, showing compassion to people whose lives have been affected by injury or bereavement. Support and comfort anyone suffering loss or distress of any kind.

Father of life, you created us and knows each of us better than we know ourselves. In Your tender compassion give to those ill or injured in body or mind your healing as best befits each one, whether the cause of distress be physical or hidden in the mind.

Father of love, as we approach the season of Advent, shield us from the temptation to be drawn into the commercialism of the season. Let us see through the advertisers claims of the “perfect” gift, which may be as simple as giving someone a little time, to make a big difference.

Eternal God of life and love, in the darkness of winter, and in the darkness of our broken world, may your light shine through Jesus to give us courage and hope. Light up our hearts as we praise you and our minds as we hear your word. Give strength to those who seek to bring your light into the dark places of our world.

Merciful Father Accept this prayer for the sake of Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Intercession Prayer for Sunday 3rd September 2017

The 12th Sunday of Trinity.

God of grace and Father of life, You sent Your Son to live among us that we might find true and everlasting life in Him. Hear this prayer offered in Jesus name for Your church, Your world and for ourselves.

We give thanks for our clergy, and ministers of the church nationally, internationally and each in our own home towns. We pray for retiring clergy that retirement will bring new opportunities for them as we give thanks for their service.

When Jesus predicted his own death, Matthew tells us that Peter jumps in with both feet saying that isn’t what God would want. Peter presumes to know God’s mind. Father we pray that words we say and actions we do are as You guide us, not what we think or simply say is in Your name.

God of water, Lord of life. You gave us the water which sustains us and in which we are baptised. As Jesus was baptised in the Jordan, so we give thanks for everyone welcomed into Your family today by baptism in a spirit of love and trust.

We pray for our brothers and sisters in Texas, driven from their homes by floods. We pray also for India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Niger, less in the headlines, all suffering flooding of their own, without the massive, modern resources of America to deal with it and the reported over 1200 deaths.

Father God, comfort all who lost someone in floods. We give thanks for those who give aid and shelter until people can return to their homes. Support and strengthen those helping the clean up, that will take months, maybe years.

May the healing power of Jesus fill those hurting in body, mind or spirit. May he take away all that hurts or harms and give peace to those who need it.

Everlasting Father, you call us to live together in unity. Protect and guide all your children, bless our families and renew our communities.

Merciful Father Accept this prayer for the sake of Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Intercession Prayer for Sunday 23rd July 2017

The 6th Sunday of Trinity.

Heavenly Father, whose love is wider than our imagination, send Your Holy Spirit as we pray to You in the name of Your Son, our redeemer Jesus Christ.

Thank You that we can worship you in our homeland, that we can do so without fear. We remember places where to worship in Your Holy name might bring persecution We pray that soon everyone of faith may have freedom to worship you.

When Jesus told the parable of the weeds (Matthew 13: 24-30), he showed the need for patience, to separate the wheat from the chaff. Give us patience not to get caught up by the ‘have it now’ inclination, but to have self restraint for the richer rewards to come. Let this patience not be lazy, just waiting. Help us to flower amongst the weeds.

As school holidays begin, we pray for the children and young people, their teachers and carers. May the holidays refresh them for the next school year.

We pray for those leaving school to begin work or higher education. For those nervous about joining a new school, college, university or working for the first time. Prepare and support them for the next steps of their journey, whatever those steps might be. Guide them always along Your path.

We pray for the people of Lincolnshire and of Coverack in Cornwall, affected by flash floods after the storms. Let the resources be available to clear the devastation and return homes to liveable condition, and livelihoods back to business. Lord, help the relief workers making buildings safe and habitable again and help residents rebuild their communities after the reconstruction and refurbishment is complete. We pray for generosity and compassion in finding them temporary accommodation until they can return to their homes.

We give thanks for our homes whilst we remember the homeless and the refugees, wherever they are and whatever the cause. As the world refugee crisis shows no sign of slowing, we think today of South Sudan where towns near the country’s border have lost over 90% of their population.

We pray for the negotiations taking place to agree the conditions of the UK departure from the European Union. We pray for the negotiators of both UK and EU that their discussions be constructive, not confrontational. Help them to quickly reach agreement on citizens rights that are fair to all and ends uncertainty of anyone making a home, living and working in a country other than their homeland.

Father we bring to You those we know who are unwell or injured in body, mind or spirit. Offer them Your healing, to each in the way best fitted to their own need and we each offer to You, Father, the unspoken words of our own hearts.

Living God who loves all that You have made, give to us your compassion that others may see it through us in how we treat our brothers and sisters, friends and neighbours. Let our ears hear Your words of grace, given to us by Your Son, Lord Jesus Christ.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Intercession Prayer for Sunday 4th June 2017

Pentecost

Updated following the events in London on the evening of Saturday 3rd June 2017

Heavenly and glorious Father, You sent Your Son to be our shepherd and saviour, to show us the way to You. Thank you for bringing us together as Your church. Hear this prayer on the day of Pentecost, that we offer in the name of Jesus Christ.

On the first Pentecost, You sent Your Holy Spirit like tongues of flame, and in the presence of the spirit all those present with different languages understood one-another. There are still many languages today as then, but only two are universal. The language of love and the language of hate. Father teach us to speak only the language of love.

We pray for our coming General Election. Let us vote with consideration of what is in the best interests of all, not just our own individual wants. Father guide the government elected to implement the policies that are necessary, not just those that are popular. We pray for our politicians to govern with honesty and integrity.

Father God, comfort those who have suffered loss or injury, especially in the bomb blast in the Afghan capital Kabul, this week. Strengthen and guide the emergency services and workers bringing aid and relief to the injured and maimed. Safeguard from anxiety those handling the bodies of the dead.

We give thanks for the fast response of our security services to the unprovoked attack on civilians in London, on London Bridge and in the surrounding area. Let us seek only justice, not revenge which leads only to more violence.

We pray for our Brothers and sisters of other faiths. Help us to see the elements of truth and justice in beliefs that might be different from our own. Inspire us to act towards those who seek You under other names, in the same way as we act towards each other.

Father whose love is wider, deeper and stronger than our imagination can comprehend, we pray to You for the sick and injured. Send Your breath of life to restore and heal those in need. Comfort and support the ill, guide and support those who care for them and hear the the unspoken words of our own hearts.

God of all blessings, thank you for the gift of life, for the air we breathe and the food that sustains us. For the love of family and friends and the mystery of creation. For the beauty and joy we find in You and for the hope You give for the future.

Merciful Father, accept this prayer for the sake of Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Intercession Prayer for Sunday 7th May 2017

The Fourth Sunday of Easter.

Father of our Shepherd, Jesus Christ, You sent Him to Earth to care for your flock. To lead, not to heard. To open the gate to Your pasture, Not to round us up when we stray but to show us the way back to Your fold.

May this prayer encompass not only our words to You but, guided by Your Holy Spirit, that which you need us to hear today.

At Jesus baptism, You sent the blessing of Your Holy Spirit upon him as a dove. Send Your Spirit today to all those being baptised. Protect and sustain children as they grow, guide their parents, godparents and all who will care for them, that they may thrive.

Creator spirit, remind us of our own baptism and confirmation. Open our hearts and minds, to hear Your life giving word and be renewed by Your power.

Thank You Father that we live in a free democracy. We pray for the coming election. May the campaigns be fought on policy, not personality. On debate, not disparagement or dogma.

Source of truth and wisdom, guide us as we examine the options and remind us of our responsibility, to consider good and justice for all, not just our own needs and ends.

Heavenly Father, comfort all who grieve the death of a loved one or friend. Give strength to those who handle the formalities of death. Heal the unwell and injured in body or mind, according to their own need. and hear too the care of our own hears that we may say in silence within ourselves.

Merciful Father, hear this prayer in the name of Your son, our Shepherd, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Intercession Prayer for Sunday 2nd April 2017

The Fifth Sunday of Lent.

Father God, young or old, rich or poor, we are all Your children. You welcome us into your home, so let us extend that welcome on Your behalf to those we reach in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. We offer this prayer in His name.

Our Prime Minister has notified the European Union of Britain’s intent to withdraw. We pray that negotiation of departure be conducted with honesty and good will. May our separate futures be in peace, prosperity and harmony.

Though we chose a different path, Father let us remain welcoming to European citizens who chose to make their home here. Give us wisdom to see the benefits they bring to our wellbeing and prosperity.

We pray for everyone undertaking an initiative or challenge during this Lent. Support them in their efforts, guide and bless them through the lenten time.

John says Jesus shed tears with Mary and Martha as they grieved the death of their brother, Jesus’ friend Lazarus. Father God we ask that you strengthen anyone grieving today for the death of someone they loved. Support them by Your Holy Spirit as they adjust to their changed circumstances and life.

Today especially we pray for the souls of the 24 dead, their families and more than 70 injured by the terrorist bomb on Friday in Parachinar, in Pakistan.

Healing Father who cares for everyone unwell or in pain, we pray that in Your wisdom You comfort and strengthen them. Guide those who will care for them.

Father in Heaven, forgive what we have done that gave you sadness, and those things we should have done that would have brought you joy. Send Your Holy Spirit to guide us to bring Joy by Creating Connections with those who do not know you.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of Your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.
