The title “There Are No Atheists In Foxholes” is a quotation. It’s originator is unknown but it is known to have been quoted in the first gulf war, by General (Stormin) Norman Schwarzkopf deceased. I recently heard it in a news report paying tribute to him after his death.
It made me wonder, how many of today’s atheists would not pray to some ‘higher power’ if their life were in jeopardy. It would not even matter what that ‘higher power’ might be. Anyone who prays to something, or someone intangible or beyond our normal senses cannot reasonably deny the existence of God, even if they don’t call him by that name.
Of course this is complete conjecture by me, I have never been in that situation (and I hope I never will be). Only those who have been at risk of death can answer it, because no one who has not been in mortal danger can possibly know for sure how they will react.
